- 1992: Mariah performs on MTV Unplugged at Kaufman Astoria Studios in Queens New York, which later airs on MTV on May 20. Following its massive success, Sony would release it as an EP on June 2, 1992. The MTV Unplugged EP debuts at number eight on the Billboard 200. Mariah’s cover of 'I’ll Be There,' performed with Trey Lorenz, enters the Billboard Hot 100 at number thirteen—the highest debut since The Beatles’ 'Let It Be' in 1970—and would become her sixth number-one single just three weeks later.
